Lazy Day

Lucky Les: I have a few suggestions.

New reading list, anybody?

Happy birthday to Gustav Klimt, born on this day in 1862.
Don’t miss a rare opportunity to see Klimt’s “Frauenbildnis (Portrait of a Woman)” in Gallery 158, on loan to the Museum from The Lewis Collection. Klimt began this piece in 1917 but it was discovered unfinished in the artist’s studio after his death in February 1918—you’ll notice this work is sketchier than most of Klimt’s densely decorated canvases. It is thought to be his third work to portray Maria (“Ria”) Munk, the daughter of Alexander and Aranka Pulitzer Munk, who had shot herself in 1911 at the age of 24, in despair over a lover.

Yesterday I had the privilege of teaching my self-branding class to a group of interns who are working at Chungaboo for the summer. Chungaboo is a family-owned and oriented publishing company that creates highly interactive, educational content.

During the session, we covered the importance…

When I wrote a poem for you,
you didn’t read it.
It meant nothing to you,
but it meant everything to me
because those words
were my words, and the meaning
was my meaning,
and the way I loved you
was the only way
that I knew how to be brave.

Manhattanhenge happens tonight!
Twice a year, the sun sets between buildings in New York to make for especially epic photos of the sun hovering above the horizon.
Tips:
A telephoto lens will help get a close view of the sun
The sun will set at 8:15 PM tonight, but get there early.
Get as far east in Manhattan for the best effect
34th and 42nd St are notable for getting the Empire State Building & the Chrysler Building in to your photo
14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd, and 57th Streets will also give you views clear across to the west, where the sun sets
